How do I determine what is “typical” teen behavior vs. “struggling” teen behavior

It is natural for teens to minimally test authority and have a slight change in attitude, perspective and involvement with the family. The signs that it isn’t “typical” are blatant disrespect, continual challenging of the family rules, sneaking, lying, total lack of motivation, entitlement, drastic change in attire, and changing friends. You may also see behaviors that are completely uncharacteristic of your teen’s personality which could suggest the possibility of drug and/or alcohol experimentation.
